This year’s AMC FearFest event was “ Shocked by Shudder“ for a massive two-month celebration, with over 700 hours of films, series and specials curated by Shudder, AMC Networks’ streamer for horror, thrillers and the supernatural, for the very first time. The hit series premiered in 2011, a sort of “Twilight Zone” for the modern day. Without questioning it, technology has transformed all aspects of our lives in every home on every desk in every palm – a plasma screen a monitor a Smartphone – a Black Mirror reflecting our 21st Century existence back at us. “Black Mirror” is an anthology series that taps into our collective unease with the modern world, with each stand-alone episode a sharp, suspenseful tale exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia leading to an unforgettable – and sometimes unsettling – conclusion. The cast includes: Aaron Paul, Anjana Vasan, Annie Murphy, Auden Thornton, Ben Barnes, Clara Rugaard, Daniel Portman, Danny Ramirez, Himesh Patel, John Hannah, Josh Hartnett, Kate Mara, Michael Cera, Monica Dolan, Myha’la Herrold, Paapa Essiedu, Rob Delaney, Rory Culkin, Salma Hayek Pinault, Samuel Blenkin, and Zazie Beetz. “The stories are all still tonally Black Mirror through-and-through - but with some crazy swings and more variety than ever before,” Brooker adds in today’s statement. Consequently, this time, alongside some of the more familiar Black Mirror tropes we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what ‘a Black Mirror episode’ even is.” The sixth season of Black Mirror is the most unpredictable, unclassifiable and unexpected yet.”Ĭreator Charlie Brooker teases, “Partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect. The logline previews, “Expect the unexpected in the long-awaited return of Charlie Brooker’s dark, satirical anthology series, which reinvents itself with each new episode. Netflix has announced today that “Black Mirror” Season 6 will premiere this coming June, and they’ve also previewed the new episodes with a teaser trailer. (Which is the ultimate moral of the story, right?) 16.Expect the unexpected. Regular TV viewers want more emotional resonance, gamers want even more control over the "game". Games and non-gamers appear to have different attitudes to the episode. Many viewers accused the narrative of being thin – possibly a consequence of the interactive structure – and even boring. The obsessiveness of game designer Stefan as he repeats his experiences (with only fractional awareness of the bigger picture) reflects that of the viewer looping through repeating story beats, and the episode kicks the meta even higher with some outcomes revealing that Stefan is a character in a Netflix drama, others going full kung-fu bananas, and others breaking the fourth wall entirely to show Stefan as an actor on a movie set. On an intellectual level it's highly satisfying, with Brooker sublimating his love of '80s gaming into a meta-story about gaming on one level, and free will on another. There's no denying it's a technological triumph – a seamless digital journey through a proliferating range of story choices, a televisual 'Choose Your Own Adventure'.
